Indo-Canadian Dental Association (ICDA)

Who we are…

The Indo-Canadian Dental Association (ICDA) is non-profit organization, in which a group of dental professionals of Indian heritage, are committed to a noble mission of promoting oral health care in our communities.

This is done through a platform where dental professionals of Indian heritage come together to connect, socialize and serve the community at large, while keeping the richness of the Indian culture alive, and pass it on to the next generation.

The Association has raised funds for cancer prevention program and UBC endowment fund. In the past ICDA has raised funds to support oral health initiatives in our communities in many other avenues.

The South Asian population is now the largest visible minority group in Canada and have immensely contributed to growth and development of Canadian economy. While we are proud of our community members and their contributions, it’s unfortunate that many of our community members suffer from oral cancer (South Asian men is at 33% higher risk and women at 66% higher risk than the general population of BC).

Even when diagnosed, majority of these cases were diagnosed at a late stage and South Asians have poorest survival, compared to the Chinese and BC general population. Therefore, there is a tremendous need to address this important issue, which is a part of the vision of BC Oral Cancer Prevention Program.
